CWS: ''The Influences of Cubism & Surrealism on Fashion" by Becky Kénaan

Philip Absolon. Cassie Thinking About Cubism

Although I find Philip Absolon's "Cassie" amusing in context, it nonetheless pretty much characterizes what you see that I have on:
The reduction and fragmentation of forms into abstract, geometric structures as color block planes...the reds, the blacks, the blues and the yellow shapes, etc.

When you really think about it, there's very little about two dimensional canvas paintings that doesn't dovetail with fashion art.

From life's artful focus on the female form and physical beauty, there are frequent crossovers between human art and fashion.

ODALISQUE by Matisse
Matisse and other artists introduced brilliantly unrealistic colors into their paintings, prompting critics to call them "wild beasts."

Picasso's ''Les Demoiselles d’Avignon" marks
a radical break from traditional composition and perspective in painting.

Innovative painters during that same time period, such as Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque best illustrated what became known as Cubism - The juxtaposition of two dimensional stylized, distorted and geometric patterns and shapes.

The Three Musicians by Pablo Picasso

Not only has cubism been appreciated in both architecture and the fine arts, but also in fashion. By the 1920's, the geometric patterns and textiles used in the fashion industry evolved in unexpected results.

Duchamp's ''Nude Descending a Staircase'' painting
with it's antic, mechanized anatomy

Influenced by cubism, fashion has long celebrated and matured with exuberant pattern designs that presented different views from many angles at once.

Dazzling colors juxtaposed with this cubist collage decorate this red corset top and pants outfit.

I guess that you could conclude that the outfit that I am wearing is a sort of post-cubist variation with a twist.

The fashion modeling here in Second Life been challenging, rewarding, and lots of fun for me.

It’s always been a direction that I wanted to go, and I have found it through the help of Classic with Style.

Thank you CWS!
