Miss SL Australia's Second Runway Challenge | It's About Time: Fashion and Duration - Engaging flashbacks from the Elizabethan Past

The Miss Second Life Runway Challenge theme was founded upon the Metropolitan
Museum of Art exhibition entitled,  "About Time: Fashion and Duration."

Curated by Andrew Bolton, this exhibition theme is inspired by the 1992 Sally Potter film Orlando, which was based on the time-traveling Virginia Woolf novel.

Its inception came from a scene in the movie when Tilda Swinton enters a
garden topiary maze wearing an 18th-century woman’s robe à la Francaise.
As she passes through it, her clothes change to mid-19th-century dress,
then reemerges in 1850s England.

Employing Henri Bergson's concept of la durée (duration), this runway
challenge is an exercise on how fashion generates temporal associations
which combines the past, present and future.

Bolton’s motive, combining duration with “About Time,” is to challenge
and complicate this tendency and to get us to think differently about
fashion history - for fashion can be both linear and cyclical at once.

For the Miss SL Second Runway Challenge, the contestants were allowed
to follow their passions to interpret it in any time period of their choosings.

Miss Australia selected the Elizabethan period to demonstrate Bolton’s
hypothesis on the transitory and recurrent nature of fashion.

This period refers to that time during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I
(from 1558–1603). During this era, nobility wore extravagant gowns
with richly embroidered fabrics adorned in ornate jewelry.

Queen Elizabeth I was said to have over a thousand extravagant gowns in her wardrobe closet.

This fascinating period experienced a cultural explosion of the arts.

This compelled her to take a deeper look into the fashion of this
era in response to modeling this second runway challenge.

Using Jumo Fashion’s Jewel illusion gown as her foundational piece,
Miss SL Australia engages flashbacks from the Elizabethan past,
interweaving them with rich historic tapestries of silvers, whites and golds.

One of the most distinctive elements of Elizabethan fashion was the exaggerated
collar. It was an indicator of wealth, prestige, and social status.

Miss Australia adorns a futuristic Elizabethan inspired silver sequined collar
by Azoury, along with regal Gizza cream epaulettes and a gold Codex
Kahir Choker to reinforce fashion’s linear and historic cyclical recurrence.

She finished her look with Bauhaus Movement Taylor white gloves, Hucci white
pumps and [HJ] Pearl Ivory Earrings. In keeping with the period, she is
wearing a no.match silver tiara with her Sintiklia Grace Updo Styled Hair.

SWANK Events March '20 Introduces the LUXE PARIS Endangered Outfit - Showing Off Your True and Ferocious Animal Instincts

It's been a jungle out there for Luxe Paris over the past 7 years!

I recall the very origins of Luxe Paris Fashion.  It was on a cute sim called
“Bikini Bay Jungle.”  Along with a fashion store, we all cohabitated
with wild animals on this happy little island sim.

Luxe Paris Fashion has evolved since then - bringing to Second Life
the finest in French Haute Couture Fashion.

In real life, I have been blessed with the opportunity to go on an African safari.
It was a wonderful trek along the Okavango Delta in Botswana.

By open-air game vehicle, mokoro canoes and by foot, I experienced numerous
sightings of leopards, zebras, hippos, rhinos, lions, wild dogs, impalas, hyenas,
giraffes and elephants - in addition to seeing a plethora of magnificent birds.

At night in my tent, I was treated to the sounds of these magnificent wild creatures.

When it comes to Africa, I absolutely love Luxe Paris Fashion’s expert blend
of animalistic fierce-ness and softer nature inspired elements which combine to
create ferociously ultra-chic statements like this Endangered outfit.

This is not the Jane of the Jungle type of wear, but rather a sophisticated haute
couture chic statement which could easily be premiered in a African animal
fashion themed music video or high fashion runway event.

Not only does this defined statement make your curves look killer, but
it is also uniquely feminine and possesses beautiful printed textures.

So let yourself be conquered by the jungle mood and transform
your wardrobe inventory into the wilds of Africa.

Turn dull into chic, boredom into fun and lifeless into ferocious.
Express your true animal instincts by elegantly adorning
this fabulous Luxe Paris Endangered Outfit.

After all, it is survival of the fittest.

Swank Events March '20 Introduces Wild Fashion & Beauty's Vergara Outfit - symbolizing a woman's savage and wild sexuality.

When I first saw the Wild Fashion Vergara Fur Jacket, Skirt and Boot outfit,
I immediately thought about the Na'ga Mamba Tribe here in Second Life.

This tribe is in a parallel universe within Second Life.

The Na'ga Mamba Tribe's sim is a Counter-Earth type setting.
It is based on an extended series of novels by John Norman
which combine philosophy, erotica, and science fiction.

For those of you who are not familiar with his work, Gorean
civilizations were outlined in his books. Every aspect from languages,
food, drink, medicine, laws, jobs and more in daily life are defined.

The Gorean world is an immersive caste system role play culture
here in Second Life. It is from which this Gorean Evolved (GE)
Na'ga Mamba Tribe came into existence.

This tribe is animalistic, wild, feral and hostile. They are uncivilized,
practicing savage rituals and speaking their own language.

And be forewarned - their primitive lives in the deep jungle make
them hostile to any outsiders that may dare enter the territory.

Na'ga Mamba tents are made of leopard hides very similar to the textures used by Wild Fashion's Nice Wildrose.

Akin to the Na'ga Mamba Tribe, Wild Fashion's Vergara Jacket, Skirt
and Boot outfit possesses a certain, untamed and wild look about it.

The highly graphic skins of these wild animals evolved as a form of
camouflage so that they could blend in with their surroundings.

Animal prints evoke an exotic tone which is both sexy and mysterious at once.
The desire to dress like a dangerous animal thus has a specific intention
to it - for these prints bring the element of power to seduce and conquer.

Wearing this Wild Fashion Vergara Jacket, Skirt and Boots outfit
you will feel as exotic and primal as the Na'ga Mamba Tribe.

Wearing leopard print symbolizes a woman's savage and wild sexuality.
It is one of the most popular prints in haute couture.
