This Art Deco Glam Hollywood Vanity Furniture Set by Cherelle Capra of CIRCA 

is the Second Life quintessential dressing table collection of the nostalgic Art Deco Style.

The dressing or vanity table is a very interesting phenomena. Few pieces 

of furniture have revealed more about society's culture, popular taste, 

or changing social customs than that of the vanity table.

The history of the vanity began with a simple box. Since antiquity, ornate boxes 

have been crafted to hold a variety of beautifying paraphernalia - including 

cosmetic jars, flasks for rare perfumes, exotic oil containers and also tools 

such as mirrors and brushes for applying makeup. 

However, it wasn't until the late 17th century in Europe that the form of 

the vanity as we know it today emerged. During this time, European high society began commissioning luxurious specialized furniture from craftsmen and furniture makers. 

Then in America during the 19th century, vanity tables reflected the revivalist styles 

which included Gothic, Elizabethan, Rococo, Renaissance, and Colonial. It was during this 

time period that the vanity table became an integral part of the bedroom environment.

Hollywood films of the 1920s and 1930s embraced the Art Deco Movement - 

which associated the modern concept of glamour and luxury with that of vanity table.

The Norman Bel Geddes’ enamel and chrome-plated steel dressing table
(circa 1932) is a model example of this sophisticated Art Deco style.
