I’m sure that most people know somewhat about Steampunk aesthetic.
Many probably imagine it as an aesthetic vernacular incorporating the use of
industrial metal, pilot goggles, odd top hats, clocks and things that move.
Steampunk Fashion has evolved into an imaginative and fantasy-driven
combination of Victorian era fashion with elements and materials inspired
by the Industrial Revolution of the late 19th Century.
Author K.W. Jeter first coined the term “Steampunk” in his 1987 novel Morlock Night.
Propelled by various Sci-fi novels, the Steampunk aesthetic later became
popular in movies, video games, TV shows, and the fashion world.
Steampunk can be best described as a hybrid of old and new: the
tradition of the Victorian period's infusion with that of bold, retro technology.
Like the movie “Road Warrior" starring Mel Gibson, Steampunk is
the juxtaposition of post-apocalyptic fantasy and the romantic
allusion of drama intertwined with that of revolution.
These combined elements create an absolutely magical vernacular when
applied to fashion. This retro fashion movement has not only grown
its own unique culture - but it has gotten the attention of today's mainstream
fashion world. Steampunk fashion is currently on the rise once again.
Although there are many different features of Steampunk fashion, one of
the more historical components is the Steampunk corset as evidenced by this
spectacular SKBW Steampunk Dress premiered this month at Swank Events.
The corset was one of the biggest staples during Victorian period, and today
it reigns supreme as one of the biggest staples in Steampunk fashion.
The bodice of this SKBW Steampunk Dress features an under the wire curved cup
bodice with detailed boning and a beautifully crafted ribbon trimmed waist
which defines it ruffled short min skirting.
The reinforced steel boning of this SKBW Steampunk Dress gives this
corset a look of great strength by appearance - cinching in your waist
and accentuating the curve of your hips and bustline.
What makes this SKBW corset mini dress so special and so indicative
of Steampunk is the eye-catching, technology-inspired retro
compass and mapping textures incorporated into its bodice.
Not only does this design pay tribute to both the femininity and tradition
of the Victorian period with that of the adventuresome Industrial Revolution
but wearing this dress reflects the sexy, strong and revolutionary-spirited
woman that you truly are.
