In both Real and Second Life, when writing about design
I have become witness to both the processes of the fashion
industry and the evolution of its trends over the past 5 years.
I truly find it amazing how designers find their inspiration, and
why so often they seem inspired by the same ideas of the past.
Please don’t misunderstand me - for historic continuity in fashion is by far a great tool for success. Architects (for example) have turned to it repeatedly to create urban successes around the world.
Instead, I would like address the subject of ephemera, and how fickle consumers here in Second Life seek instant gratification to wear something new then move on without understanding its origins.
The inception or inspiration of a trend has long been a source of debate. Supposedly, it is all part of our collective consciousness
of the creative state of mind by which we all seek inspiration.
of the creative state of mind by which we all seek inspiration.
However, originality often gives way to designing for someone else - hence following the “trend” to not get left behind.
As such, I see many Second Life stores in the SL Marketplace
work from the same genre of resources.
While some items may have instant appeal – Others require a more scrutinizing and discerning eye. It makes my head spin seeing
so much copycat in the Second Life Marketplace.
Is there a better alternative rather than to follow sheep?
Well ladies, meet Zal of Vogue Fashion.
For example, take this VoguE Xyna Top Skirt & Scarf Outfit.
It's like vintage retro, only better.
This gorgeous top will certainly stand you apart
from the crowd in style and sophistication.
The asymmetrical top has lovely bell cuffed sleeves,
decorated with colorful circular overlay print patterning
and features a cute ruffled hemline.
It gives the skirt a chic, sleek finish!
You can wear it with or without the complementing scarf.
The high rise waistband is so cute, looks comfy and goes perfectly with the top. I love how the bodycon mini skirt hugs my frame.
For the hottest hook-up this outfit looks great
with knee high boots or platform shoes.
Zal has been designing fashion here in SL for some time now ranging from casual to formal. Her mesh products are incredibly well-conceived and aesthetically detailed for
the discerning individual that appreciates good design.
Personally speaking, as an artist she reminds me of Yves Saint Laurent for the dynamics of what she creates are stunning, sophisticated and original. She moves quietly ahead - creating fashion statements that are at once original without bowing to the whims of others.
