A strange thing happened to me the other day over at Frank’s Jazz. 

 More specifically, I should say I had an encounter with one of the strangest 
men that I have ever met here in Second Life. 

Dave-Down-Under Having a Candid Discussion with a Specialist

This episode was more of an exception than the rule - 
for the vast majority of men that I meet at Frank's Jazz 
in Second Life are quite civil and possess gentlemanly charm.

My First Encounter with Dave-Down-Under

Just the same, I believe that it prompts an important discussion on the topic 

of what makes a gentleman truly a gentleman. I want to talk about the difference 

between that of a true gentleman versus one that makes claim in his dubious profile - 

to sadly discover that his actions speak literally louder than his superficial words. 

Well, picture this...I was having my fun with Nanceee ordering one of my special 
make believe caramel lattes with several other girls in open chat.

Nanceee was playing Barista. It was hilarious and all in good fun. Out of the blue, this one individual by the name of "David-Down-Under" chimes in and tells me to take a breath. I thought it was rather odd but seemingly funny so I took it in good light and responded by responding “Breathe In… Breathe Out,” in my usual self-deprecating way.

After all, we ladies do like to chat & express ourselves.

Dave-Down-Under's Intellectual Resource for "Advice."

During the course of our fun, this certain man called me out again publicly for apparently making a simple typo error - erroneously using the word “advise” instead of “advice.” Well, being that we all make typos from time to time here, I responded by politely asking him if he had ever misspelled a word here in open chat before. I also remarked that if so then he shouldn't live in that glass house of his.

It drew some lols and then we all moved on (so I thought). 

Being the type of individual that always wants to make good with people I thought that it 
might be appropriate to send him a nice IM to begin a nice friendly dialogue with him. 

As most people do here, I first looked into his profile to read up in order 
to perhaps better relate to him. 

His profile read:

"Mature Australian gentleman with a strong interest 

in traditional values, fashions and styles, particularly the 50's era. 

A dedicated romantic looking to spend time with a mature like minded lady 

who shares the core values of husband and wife as it was in those golden years, 

when men and women knew and happily accepted their roles in society and the family.”

I thought to myself, “Hmm…interesting...a gentleman with a strong interest 
in traditional values, fashion and styles. I definitely must talk to this 
man personally to find out more about him.” 

Well, being the comic that I am, I thought that it might be rather clever to IM him something about our brief encounter. The mistake I made was to talk about his profile. I opened with a simple, “btw... " like minded" should be hyphenated. lol.”

Brace yourselves, Ladies. The following events are graphic and
may be unsuitable for some. Viewer discretion is “advised.” 

I did not realize that this “Dave-Down-Under” was truly 
from way, way down under - I mean like Hell. LOL. 

He responded, “you're a loud mouthed c**t.....what part of america you from?” 

Followed by a canned “(busy response): 
You've obviously been muted because you lack enough 
brain cells to qualify as a normal functioning person. 
IOW f**k off shit for brains!”

("No need to further give him capitalization and sentence
structure pointers," I thought to myself).

This rude encounter made me think about a man’s charm 
and gentlemanly principles when it comes to women.

This example of Dave-Down-Under I believe helps in part to explain some men's ambivalent relationship with women underscored by the amoral virtue of hypocrisy. 

The fact is that only a self-aware man can have genuine gentlemanly charm. It is something that when combined with sensibility can lead to true wisdom and undeniable virtue – a level of personal growth that transcends well beyond words and self-interest.

Benjamin Schwarz aptly pointed out David's apparent long-forgotten quality of politesse and civilité in his article entitled "The Rise and Fall of Charm in American Men." 
I encourage everyone to read it.

Regardless of where you live in this world,
 these principles have true merit.

Dave-Down-Under’s sad response speaks unfortunately to being devoid of male charm and this lost virtue. To say one thing in a profile about yourself being a gentleman and then having your actions define who you really are is hypocritically a very sad thing.

  

In essence, I believe that his profile is a thinly veiled description
of a insecure but domineering man looking for sex...
looking to entrap the unwitting.

I wish that I could have had the time to respond to this
reprehensible idiot with something like...
"and YOU were the sperm that actually WON?"

Becky's Fashion Spotlight: Designer Pussycat Pike of UniQue BoutiQue

Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water, 

Becky has re-emerged with her feminist dorsal fin churning 

up panic along the fashion beaches. Ha! 

Seriously, I consider it a nice bit of icing on the cake when 

I can knock off some of Second Life’s fashion industry elite by 

demonstrating that it is the little people that matter here

the most – not the phony baloney hobnobbers which seem

so prevalent in much of Second Life’s fashion world.

  

Like I said before, I believe that this world is not 
exclusively about the contests, but rather about the people 
that bring joy and meaning through the designs they create 
to enliven our candid existence here.

That being said, it gives me great pleasure to spotlight 
Pussycat Pike of Unique Boutique as someone with solid talent 
in the Second Life Fashion World. She teases out pieces that 
make her fashion design statements so on-point, so refreshingly 
original and so warming to the eyes.

Her most recent release is this absolutely drop dead gorgeous
UniQue BoutiQue Bow Blue Gown in Lace. It features an exquisite lace floral overlay patterning, brilliantly composed in every detail.

It is also so much fun to see what fabulous designs
Pussycat Pike of Unique Boutique 
comes up with seemingly each and every
week here in Second Life.

Original and fresh, her creations are by far
some of the best I have experienced in Second Life. 

Without a doubt her creative energy manifests itself into forward thinking and trend setting designs which exude class, confidence and sophistication - livening up any occasion, every time and every place. 

I think it’s important for people to see her collections in action. 

As such, I enjoy modeling her creations at places like 
Frank’s Jazz and also releasing her stunning work 
to the fashion-hungry press here in Second Life.  

The energy she evokes in her work speaks volumes 
to the person she is inside as well. 

As a fashion blogger, my first and foremost wish is to
make the terrific people that I come in contact with irrationally
happy and well-informed about the amazing things offered here in Second Life (and after all, isn’t that what fashion is for?). 

 Pussycat makes my job easy doing this. As a fashion collaborator

and astute designer, she tells us what she loves about fashion
through the manifestation of her magnificent work.

Virtues Which Give Models a Sense of Place & Purpose Here in Second Life

Hello. My name is Becky Kénaan and I am a hobnobberhaulic.

Hobnobberhaulism is a form of severe fawning and obsequiousness
prompted by bouts of severe infatuation over what is not real
here in Second Life. To say the least, there are a boatload
of us here that are addicted to this useless disease.

The definition of hobnobber in the dictionary is someone who hobnobs with other people. In simple terms it means sucking up to people you believe are important in order to try to increase your own influence.

Any closet hobnobber worth his or her salt here in Second Life will get this message. Many unknowing others however will not - for their meaningless social SL climbing IQ is directly and inversely
proportional to their inability to reason between
right and wrong, between myth and reality.

Well, welcome to the mind and to the world of fake celebrity hobnobbers here in Second Life. Yes, you heard me correctly -
“fake celebrities.”  I believe that you know what I am talking
about, and who these people are and how they behave. 

Please don’t misinterpret my message for I sincerely enjoy the modeling and especially the joy that I get out of educating others here in Second Life. I am not bitter about any contests either – just giving myself a reality check in an unreal Second Life World. 

When I first came into SL modeling I was a hobnobber seeking to find my way as a famous celebrity fashion supermodel. Since then, I have matured and become sober to understanding the reality of second life insofar as my senses and directions here are concerned.

 (I know that sounds like an oxymoron, ha!)

This editorial is not about me but rather about what I see
as the ineptness and the ubiquity in and of
the many modeling contests here in Second Life.

It is about the phony baloney form of judging and the hobnobbers whose mantra of purpose here is to base their selections on superficial looks rather than the merit that one brings into this world and the wonderful contributions that people make to it.

This may offend some but I really don’t give a shit about
nor want those types of people any longer in my life.

Basically, unlike real life modeling contests (which btw I have personally experience in), many modeling contests here in SL are almost exclusively based on the illusion in appearance of what a person can create utilizing a 3D avi, a paint brush, and some flair for fashion - instead of what a model should bring in terms of who they really are, what they stand for and their sincere contributions.

These qualities are the true attributes and virtues that
gives a model a sense of place and purpose here. 

I don’t take a penny for my writings about fashion. I do it to as a passion to promote fashion and to educate others.

That is my purpose. I have no hidden agenda. I shoot straight from the hip with people here as I see things – good, bad, or indifferent. 

My biggest gripe about fashion modeling here is the
counterintuitive light in which models are often cast, reviewed, selected and awarded for their looks and NOT so much
for what they really offer to others here.

The modeling artwork created here in Second Life
pales by comparison to the people that have something
substantive here to share. I think that I can speak in behalf of
many models here that can relate to this message.
